Temporary foster care, food, exams and veterinary care for pets while their owners face a hardship, so families can be reunited. The standard stay is 14 days with extensions based on need. Unaltered pets are spayed or neutered before going home, and pets also get vaccines and microchips.

  • Who can use it: Pet owners facing a temporary crisis. Domestic violence cases must be referred by Children and Families of Iowa; veterans in crisis are referred through Veterans Affairs. Not available for situations involving incarceration or for requesters whose public record includes assault, domestic violence-related charges, breaches of no-contact orders or interference with official acts.
  • How to get started: Submit the Crisis Care Request Form on the ARL website.
