A northeastern Pennsylvania nonprofit that gives one-time grants, paid to your vet, for non-urgent treatment of a sick pet.
Good to know
- Ways to pay: CareCredit, Scratchpay
- Payment policy: Application asks whether you have applied for CareCredit or Scratchpay; grants are paid straight to the veterinarian.
- Services: non-urgent, cancer, chronic illness, one-time surgery
- Who can use it: You must be a Pennsylvania resident whose main home is in Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna or Wayne County (Luzerne County is not on the list). Your pet must already have been seen by a licensed vet with a clear diagnosis, a treatment plan with a good outlook, and a cost estimate. Covers non-routine, non-urgent care such as cancer, chronic illness, heart disease and one-time surgery. Does not cover emergencies, routine care, vaccines, spay/neuter or bills already paid. You must show financial need with your latest tax return and recent pay stubs or an SSA award letter. Demand is high and funds are limited.
- How to get started: Fill out the online application on the PAWS of NEPA Apply for Assistance page and upload your documents, then wait to be contacted when funding is available. For a true emergency, go to a local animal hospital instead.
