Townsend's Animal Control Officer enforces the town Dog By-Law and responds to complaints and problems involving dogs, stray dogs, barking dogs, dog bites and attacks, stray cats, lost and found dogs and cats, and other animal issues. She evaluates kennel license applications and often has dogs and cats ready for adoption. The same officer also serves the Town of Ashby. Carcass removal from public roads is handled by the Highway Department.
