A rescue-based foundation that gives a limited number of grants to dog owners who can't afford a vet bill, paid directly to the vet.
Good to know
- Ways to pay: CareCredit, Scratchpay
- Payment policy: Must apply for CareCredit and Scratchpay first; grant is paid to the vet.
- Services: dogs, non-routine vet care
- Who can use it: Dogs only, and the dog must be spayed or neutered. You must first apply to CareCredit and Scratchpay and talk payment plans over with your vet, and you are expected to pay part of the bill yourself. Your vet must give a cost estimate and prognosis. You must show proof of need, such as tax returns, pay stubs or benefit letters. Routine care is not covered. Not every request can be funded and there is usually a waitlist.
- How to get started: Fill out the online application on the HEAL Foundation pet owner grants page, or send the dog's age, breed, spay/neuter status and photo, a description of the problem, your vet's estimate and prognosis, proof of need, and proof of your CareCredit or Scratchpay denial. Include a phone number where they can reach you.
