Affordable heartworm treatment for dogs that test positive. The first step is a consultation with the veterinarian, with bloodwork and X-rays; the standard protocol is melarsomine injections given two to three times over about two months, with an overnight stay of one to two nights and follow-up medications. The page says to speak with the veterinarian about alternative treatment options if cost is a concern.
