Short-term housing for pets of Denver residents in a crisis such as domestic violence, homelessness, a home fire, or a hospital, treatment or rehabilitation stay. Stays are usually 2 to 4 weeks, with extensions at staff discretion. Unaltered animals are spayed or neutered and pets are vaccinated on intake.
Good to know
- Who can use it: Denver County residents in a qualifying crisis. Pets must be social enough to be handled safely. Mostly dogs and cats; other species may be accepted if space allows. Enrollment depends on space and each animal and owner can use the program once. Owner visits are not allowed.
- How to get started: A case worker must refer you. If you do not have one, contact Denver Human Services at 720-944-3666. You or your case worker then contact the Temporary Pet Housing Coordinator. Medical conditions must be disclosed and a program agreement signed.
