At-Home End-of-Life Care for Your Pet

← Help My Pet

Find providers that may serve your area and know what to ask before scheduling. These listings cover at-home euthanasia, hospice and aftercare, with each provider’s services explained on its own page.

If you are unsure what your pet needs or how urgently, call your veterinarian. Help My Pet cannot assess your pet, reserve a visit or confirm today’s availability.

These networks have local teams in many areas. Enter your ZIP code on their websites to check coverage, or see end-of-life help in your state.

Southern California Providers

In Covina? Lap of Love has directly confirmed coverage, subject to the address and schedule. Hearts & Halos and Animal Ambulance list broader areas that include the region; confirm your address. A Pet’s Farewell and Advanced Mobile Vet Care have told us they do not serve Covina.

Outside Southern California

Lap of Love and Pet Loss at Home, listed above, are U.S. networks; check their coverage for your ZIP code. The IAAHPC hospice directory also lists hospice, palliative and in-home end-of-life providers beyond our region. Service areas vary, so confirm your address.

Planning ahead

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to start these conversations. IAAHPC’s pet-parent guidance covers hospice planning, quality of life and caregiving. Wisdom Paws offers virtual quality-of-life and end-of-life planning consultations; confirm fees directly. For questions to bring to your veterinary team, see understanding the next step.

Caring for a cat? The FelineVMA’s quality of life and end-of-life guide walks through the questions vets use (pain, appetite, drinking, grooming, happiness, mobility, and whether there are more good days than bad), with a free printable good-day/bad-day calendar to bring to appointments. Their hospice and palliative care guide (PDF) explains comfort care at home.

Make One Call Count

  • Give your city or ZIP code, pet’s species and approximate weight. Ask whether they can serve your exact address.
  • Ask which services they offer and the earliest appointment they can actually confirm.
  • Request the total cost, including travel, after-hours fees and the aftercare option you want. Ask when payment is due.
  • Ask what happens if your pet needs help before the appointment and whom to call.

If cost is a barrier, see ways to pay for care. Programs may exclude euthanasia or cremation, so confirm that before applying.

In the Los Angeles and Orange County area, the Honor Fund can help toward the difference between communal and individual cremation, so families can receive their pet’s ashes when money is tight. Confirm current availability directly.

After a loss

Grief after losing a pet is real. The CVMA pet-loss support directory lists California pet-loss groups and counselors, and some are available online. Wisdom Paws also offers caregiver grief support.
